Arizona scope of practice for nurse injectors — in plain language.
Arizona is one of the most favorable states in the country for nurse injectors. It is a full practice authority state for Nurse Practitioners, meaning board-certified NPs hold independent prescriptive authority and can evaluate patients, prescribe neuromodulators, and perform aesthetic injection without a supervising physician or written collaborative agreement.
Registered Nurses can also perform Botox injection in Arizona — but only under the order of a licensed prescriber (physician, NP, or PA). The RN cannot independently evaluate the patient, cannot select or prescribe the product, and must be working from either a written protocol, a standing order, or a specific patient-level order.
In practice this means every Arizona medspa employing RN injectors needs a Medical Director. It does not mean the NP owner needs a Medical Director for herself — only for the RN staff performing prescription-based services under her authority. This is a common source of confusion.
